Salt Rhine

SALT. Rhine is the oversized sunglass of the 1960s–70s, kept in the present: a subtle lift, long contours, and a construction that is not “big plastic.” SALT. builds Rhine so a 1 mm acetate insert can sit with titanium (and, when specified, glass)—the insert stiffens and protects the lens and gives a second layer of color, either contrast or near-monochrome.

The organic SALT. pattern is stamped inside the temple tips and nose pads for grip and identity. Listed details also include Japanese acetate (the insert and finishing), functional rivet hinges, polarized optical-grade glass and CR-39, plus AR, hydrophobic, and oleophobic coatings. Current listed colorways ship with polarized CR-39. Designed in California. Handcrafted in Japan. $610 at The Last Optical (SALT. site lists $650).

Who it’s for. Anyone who wants oversized sun that still follows the face—SALT. notes the contours as complementary across face shapes. 59 mm eye, 52.5 mm depth, 18 mm bridge, 143 mm temples.
