SALT. 1898 is not a fashion shield with a fish story taped on. It is SALT.’s sport-fishing glass: a lightweight Japanese aerospace-grade titanium chassis and proprietary polarized glass, built with anglers for time on the water. The name points to Catalina and the 1898 sport-fishing code—“respect the spirit of the battle and the value of your adversary”—and the hardware is the part we care about in the shop: adjustable pads, a custom injection shield against glare and wind, and temple tips you can pull to run a tether.
The titanium is strength-to-weight optimized. Nose pads adjust for fit and to cut fogging. Anti-slip temple tips are removable for a tether; SALT. includes Dacron line so you can make your own. Polarized glass with AR, hydrophobic, and oleophobic coatings. In the box: custom pill case, limited-edition tin, cleaning cloth, Dacron line, owner’s card. Designed in California. Handcrafted in Japan. $665.
Who it’s for. Anglers and anyone who wants purpose-built water optics in titanium and glass—not a fashion acetate. 61 mm eye, 16 mm bridge, 145 mm temples. Adjustable pads help us tune fit; still try it on. This is a performance piece we are happy to talk through with you, including lens color for the water you actually fish.
